Obituary for Donald E. Morningstar
Donald E. Morningstar, 80, of 18 Hendel Loop Carlisle, PA, died Tuesday January 15, 2013 surrounded by the loving arms of his family while at Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community. Mr. Morningstar would have celebrated his 81st birthday on January 19, 2013. He was the son of the late Millard R. and Pauline E. Morningstar of York, PA.
Mr. Morningstar was a 1949 graduate of William Penn Sr. High School in York, a 1958 graduate of Shippensburg University and a 1964 Master’s graduate of Purdue University. He did additional graduate work at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Philadelphia College of Science and Penn State University.
During the Korean Conflict, Mr. Morningstar served in the U.S. Navy as an aerial photographer with the Navy’s Hurricane Hunters. He was a member of Sigma Pi Sigma national physics honor society, Pi Sigma Pi national educational honor society and the American Association of Physics Teachers.
Mr. Morningstar is survived by a brother, Glenn “Bud” Morningstar of Saline, Michigan. He also is survived by a son, Bronly E. Morningstar and his wife, Debra, of Newburg, a daughter, Laura L. Morningstar, her husband, Steven C. Lahr, and their daughter, Jadelyn Dawn Morningstar, of Carlisle.
Mr. Morningstar was a physics professor at Shippensburg University for thirty-three years. Prior to this, he taught math and physics at York Suburban High School. He retired from teaching in 1994.
During his lifetime, Mr. Morningstar was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting with his German Short-haired Pointer, Cindy, and fishing for pike in Canada with his best friends each year. He also enjoyed traveling and photography. However, his greatest joy in life was his only grandchild, Jadelyn Dawn. He loved spending time with her and watching her grown into the beautiful, intelligent and compassionate young lady she is today.
Per the wishes of Mr. Morningstar, there will be no formal, public service. Arrangements are being made by Auer Cremation Services of PA, in Harrisburg. Scattering of his ashes will be performed in a private ceremony at the family’s convenience.
